Hello and Welcome to SpiraLife!
SpiraLife is a social business connecting people who want to deliver projects outdoors, with practitioners who have the right skills to achieve that. We listen to your needs, suggest how to deliver them sustainably and make the most out of the project, and deliver it with you. Take a look at the list below to see some of the themes we work to, browse the sie for practitioners and further information, and contact us if you think we can help!
- Local food
this includes gardening at home from containers to smallholdings, permaculture, garden-sharing, allotments, community supported agriculture, growing in nurseries and schools, free perennial food in streets, play areas and public spaces - Biodiversity
this includes maintaining "wild" spaces, mini-beast hotels, planting for bees, butterflies and birds, woodpiles, wild hedges, hedgehog housing and bats in your belfry! - Play and leisure
Including equipped play areas, developing natural play spaces, sensory and edible gardens, amphitheatres and mazes, low impact meeting spaces, outdoor and communal cooking. We can also support and plan celebrations including live music, art and craft activities, ceremonies and sharing food - Physical health and mental wellbeing
these are invariably both promoted when we spend more time outdoors, and research demonstrates that social activity is a major contributor to mental wellbeing. Outdoor gym equipment, walking routes, meeting and resting places, cyclepaths and other infrastructure all contribute to this – but SpiraLife also offer social strategies to make these fun, inter-generational activities - Low carbon transport
this includes walking and cycling, and applies particularly where we can make plans to increase our short walks and cycles – to the shops or the doctor's surgery within a town – and looking for places we can create safer routes to schools, packed with fruit picking and herb-tea herb beds along the way… - Energy
can often impact on our use of outdoor space, when we want to use it after dark, or if we want to cook food or listen to music away from buildings – so why not look at a sustainable energy solution for these needs?
SpiraLife aims to provide high quality working experiences for local people. We currently work on the basis of employing associates to deliver projects. Some are experienced permaculture designers, or have a wealth of experience working with people and communities. Others offer funding or project management skills, while yet others are experienced craftspeople, artists, or technicians. You can find out a bit more about our associates on the "Who we are" page – or if you feel you have skills to offer and would like to be considered to contribute to a SpiraLife project near you, please let us know via the contact page!
